Chapter 1 unedited

Prologue:
The world's natural resources have been depleted and the world was plunged into chaos. The world split into two, the East and West. The competition to create an answer raged on until the East and West went into total hate. One generator was created to harness the power of water, wind, and the sun. This was created by a neutral company in Hawaii. The blueprints were given to both sides and they raced to construct one and find a way to mass produce them. The East finished first and was looked as the saviors of the world. The Calendar was restated with it being named EG, which stands for Evolution Generation. In an attempt to settle the anger between them and the West, they send the generator to the West. The last oil plant that was still in production was the one to receive this to attempt to switch out their power source to power the entire upper half of North America. But strangely, the generator was rigged with a bomb and the factory was destroyed. Who would have done such a thing? Now the West is even more infuriated at the East and a war is started. It is now EG 17 and the West is falling behind in technology against the East. But for the last two years, the West has been secretly making it's new weapon. What could it be?

Toronto Base, Toronto, Canada, October 20, EG 17, 1:37 pm EST:
“Hey! What the hell do you think you're doing! The rifle is on the right hand not the left!”
A bright orange haired man screamed at the mechanics from a distance, shaking his fist in anger.
“How the hell am I supposed to shoot with my left hand!?”
“Lieutenant Michaels, sir! We're sorry for the inconvenience, sir.”
The mechanic scrambled back to the team and yelled at the others for being nitwits.
“Hey Auron, don't be so tough on the mechanics! We're lucky enough to be able to pilot things like this today.”
Auron turned around to see a man around his height, who he easily recognized as David. His messy brown hair would look pretty bad if he hadn't worn a red headband all the time. It pushed it up and away from his face, which exposed his tough looking face with, one some occasions, a small five o' clock shadow.
“Hey, David. What do you think that this new machine will really settle things?”
“Well of course! This Gundam is pretty much invincible against the enemy DaiSenshis!”
Auron looked out into the hanger and thought to himself,

Gundam...

This new machine would settle all the disputes between the West and East. He was sure of it. For seven years, the war had been going on and he's seen what war can do to a person. He was sure that this new project would end this war sooner or later.
“Well, you better not get your ass kicked today by your girlfriend.”
“What?!” Auron's expression was priceless. “She's not my girlfriend!
Auron wanted to punch David. He was in his mid thirties and always cracked jokes around younger guys. Sometimes they were just unnecessary.
He laid his eyes upon the Gundam for one last time before leaving to go to his dorm. He had an hour before the training started. This was his first live pilot training that was coming up and he wanted to be well rested before doing so.
On his way to his room, he met his new Captain, Captain Mark Garnet. He was in charge of the new G-Project and this would be who he would be reporting to sooner or later.
"Captain Garnet, sir!"
"Oh quit it Michaels. We've known each other long enough to not need this formal setting."
Auron put his hand down and relaxed his shoulders.
"So, what do you think of the new project, old man?"
“Old man? I'm not even in my fifties yet! But anyway, all I can say that it's in you and Asukas' hands"

Asuka...

Auron felt as if the wind was blowing down his back and he could feel a chill running up his spine.
"Sorry sir, but I really must be going..."
Garnet looked at Auron with a weird expression, but turned away and walked down the corridor once again. Auron felt something evil coming up. He walked forward, with his head down. His thoughts wandered. What would today be like? What if I'm not good enough?

G-Project...Gundam...
Asuka...

Suddenly, Auron could feel something on top of his head. It felt human. No, more than human. Female.
Auron looked up to see that he had just run into Asuka. Auron's face turned red while staring at Asuka's surprised-disgusted expression. Her blond hair made her face's red glow even brighter and her blue eye's were the ice to her red, hot face.
"AURON!!!! What the hell do you think you're doing!?!?"
Auron backed up to see Asuka's full figure. Her body language was screaming at Auron with disgust.
"O,oh, Asuka...It's not what you're thinking! I was just heading back to my dorm, and I had a lot on my mind and--"
Auron's nervousness was like watching a child up on stage for the very first time. He backed up, but ran into someone else once again. He turned around with his hands up as if he were being arrested.
"Asuka, what's going on?"
Auron looked at his predator and saw brown wavy hair, with bright blue eyes. Just like Asuka's.
"Ugh, it's just Auron again, Masaki. He ran straight into me with out even knowing it. Into my chest." Asuka put a lot of emphasis into the word "chest".
Masaki? Oh right, Asuka's brother...
"No, no, it's not what you guys are thinking! Agh, you guys think I'm a total perv!" Auron ran into his dorm and dived straight onto his couch.

Asuka...
-----------------------
The G-Project had started a year ago, when the development of Gundam had started.
Pilot testing were held and many had come to use this powerful machine. Not only were they tested for piloting, but their psychological state was questioned as well. The West would not let some psychos pilot the newest machines. Many had gotten past the pilot testing, but had failed the psychological test. The test was to see how pilots were to react in battle and they were asked questions that were answered by personal opinion, but what they were looking for was a straight forward answer. So in the winter of EG 16, when all hopes of finding liable test pilots, a civilian had stepped into the hanger and just seemed to get past everything that was thrown at him. The officials were surprised by this and questioned this person. When “he” walked in, the officials were in denial. There was no way that a female would be a good enough pilot. She had passed all psychological tests and when that bound-to-fail question came, she answered with the most basic answer.
“Why do you want to join the Western forces and risk your life being a part of this G-Project?”
“Because I, Asuka Takahashi, have business to take care of.”
“Well then, Ms. Takahashi, you're in.”

Auron and David however, were accepted into the G-Project a different way. They had both been in the army since EG 10. Auron was around 16 and was drafted into the army. David was in his twenties when Auron was first brought in and he was like an idol to him. Auron thought that David was like a perfect solider. He was brave, courageous, and could do almost anything. Auron had fought along side his father and David for six years of the war up until EG 16. They both had shown exceptional talent in the army and were flown to Toronto and for an entire year, trained in piloting a mobile suit. Mobile suits are large humanoid robots that are built for war. They posses the power to change the tides of war while leaving destruction everywhere they go. Up until the winter of EG 16, they were uninformed of what they were being trained for. It wasn't until Asuka had been recruited that the project was discussed with the three of them. This is when the found out about the development of the mobile weapon Gundam. They learned that their lives would be risked for the sake of protecting this project and that if they die in battle, this project would fail. Auron was the only one who didn't seem to like the idea, but was convinced by David that he should stick around. Like a dog following his master, Auron joined in.
-----------------------
An hour had passed. It was time. Auron got up and scratch his tired head and headed for the bathroom. He had ruined his uniform. The creases stood out like writing on a white board. He pressed against his uniform and straightened out. He stared at the mirror.
Am I ready for this? He thought.
He headed out of his room and saw Asuka on the way out.
"Uh, Asuka. Sorry for earlier. I was just really out of it..."
"No problem Auron. But it should NEVER happen again."
Asuka didn't look at Auron the whole way to the locker rooms. The oddest part about this changing room is that it wasn't separated by rooms, it was separated by lockers. Auron went over to his locker, which was right behind Asuka's. The guys usually didn't mind this. It was the women who felt like the odd ones out. But either way, this room served it's sole purpose. Auron slipped out of his uniform and had brought up his pilot suit to his stomach when something had fallen onto his head. He pulled it down and saw that Asuka had thrown her uniform over her locker instead of on top of. He noticed her badge and it read "Colonel Asuka Takahashi". He was surprised at seeing this even after know that Asuka had become the leader of the G-Squad. She had been chosen because of her talent of piloting. She had done exceptionally on the simulations.
Auron's train of thought was disrupted by a pair of stockings and a mini skirt. Auron had caught them in his hand. His face turned tomato red.
"Auron, I know what you're thinking. Just thrown them back!"
Auron knew that she would kick his ass if he didn't. He threw them back without hesitation and pulled up his pilot suit. He grabbed his helmet and walked out. Asuka had caught up with him and grabbed him on the way down the hallway.
"Sorry if I'm treating you like a jerk today Auron. But it's just too important of a day for any procrastination."
Asuka's voice was calming and brought tranquility to Auron's mind. He was finally able to think of something to say,
"Today just feels kinda weird." Auron sighed out. What stupid line. He thought
The rest of the way to the hanger, they didn't say a word. They were afraid that if they said anything about today, the training would go horribly and that they would be kicked out of this once in a life time opportunity. When they arrived, they both got onto scissor elevators. They brought them up to their mobile suit's cockpit. Auron hopped in and started up the controls. Everything felt so familiar, yet so new at the same time. He had gone through simulations with the same controls, but never had they really controlled a machine. A machine with devastating power.
All the screen lit up and a small face popped up in the corner. It was Captain Garnet congratulating him on his successfulness. They would soon be part of the new land battleship Orion. The Orion would carry the Gundam and other units to participate in the G-Project. Their main goal is to gather enough data to be able to mass produce the Gundam and have simple soldiers pilot it with minimal training. Gundam would be the prototype to a revolution of mobile suits.
Auron was cleared to leave and he pushed his controls forward. The mobile suit came to life and walked with the most basic of human motion. He cleared the gate and knelt his mobile suit into the nearby trees. He set-up his sniper rifle, which would be loaded with test bullets. No one would be actually shot down but instead, the data would displayed in the unit that go shot and react as if they really had been. It was flawless. He turned around to check the gate. Asuka would be launching soon. Right as he looked, a shiny, white mobile suit walked out. It's vents breathed out hot air and the main camera of the suit glowed. The eyes glowed a great green color and the yellow antennas connected to the red stub reflected a gold color. It was such an exceptional sight.
“David, you lucky bastard.”

"Who you calling David!? Auron, I'm gonna get you for this. My unit can kick your GUN's ass!”
